It looks like I'm camera-less again. Well, that's not entirely accurate. I have a camera, and it takes pictures, but my computer no longer recognizes them as pictures. But you know what occurred to me? Am I a writer or am I not? I'll just have to give you images in words...
Picture this: a handful of girls and a living room full of clothes. There is a closet rod laid across a radiator and a kitchen chair, the height difference being compensated by some resourceful rubber bands. A dress form stands in the corner, looking ready to hit the runway in a black miniskirt, a lime green T, a black shrug, a bright, red belt, and a fur-lined hat with ear flaps. Stunning. On the coffee table, piles of shirts compete for space with bowls of chocolates. In the middle of the floor, laughing girls are trying on odd combinations of clothes and taking pictures. A full-length mirror leans against the wall in one corner; every once in a while someone standing in front of it will squeal, "Ooh, I like this!"
Yesterday, a faithful few braved a late April snowstorm to share in a (FREE!) clothing exchange. With the end of a season and a semester, and with the prospect of moving looming before most of us, we all had clothes to get rid of. Gaining a few free items is always appealing, too. For me, there was a third motive at work: at the end of the day, I found all of the clothing that was not in perfect condition, but that had a lot of good fabric left, and added it to my sewing stash. Now I have a small pile of orphan clothing to sew into new pieces for my shop. When it opens. Which it will, soon, in May. There are some interesting stories brewing there that have kept me from talking about it in the past while, but I promise to explain it all soon.
Despite the storm and the low numbers, the clothing exchange was a lot of fun, and served its purpose perfectly. Now I'm off to Rebuilt Resources, a local second-hand store where I'll be donating our leftovers - the ones in too good a condition for me to justify cutting them up.
Clothing exchange. A perfect combination of those elusive adjectives, "fun" and "free". You should try it.
Super fun for sure! We have to have another one of these sometime.

Okay that was badly done. You get the idea.
